Does Healthy Food Matter When Losing Weight?

February 19th, 2010

I have heard lots of different opinions on this and I would like to know the REAL answer.
For instance, if I ate 1000 calories healthy food would I lose more weight than if I ate 1000 calories junk food?
Please don’t just say what is the “good” answer, answer honestly!

In the end calories are calories, you need 3,500 calories lost or gained to lose or gain a pound respectively.
But there is a difference, fats are hard to metabolize and proteins have all sorts of goodies cells need. You need other vitamins and minerals that are not found in junk food.
Generally, junk food has a lot of calories for not so much food. There is 9 calories for every gram of fat. Carbohydrates and protein have 4 calories per gram. So, low fat foods are not as dense in calories and thus you can eat more and feel full.

Yes. You should also eat more calories to loose weight. 1300 is good. Some people think you can even eat more than that. Your body uses real food differently than junk. Healthy food gives your cells the nutrition it needs to rebuild themselves. Junk food offers nothing and increases your insulin levels because to metabolize sugar and bad carbs your pancreas needs to over work. Bad carbs get stored as fat and healthy carbs like whole grain foods and fruit offer vital minerals and vitamins to every cell in your body. Also when you eat whole real foods not all the calories are absorbed because of the fiber. All around you lose more weight, you keep it off and your body feels great. Exercise and building some lean muscle mass will also increase the burning of calories. You should know eating a low calorie diet under 1300 can mess up your metabolism and you will gain weight faster once you stop eating a diet.
