Delicious Healthy Food For A College Student?
July 17th, 2010
I’m on a college student budget
not much time to cook, though I do enjoy cooking and wish to be able to have a fridge with healthy good tasting foods rather than eating junk food.
Like I mentioned, I don’t have much time to cook a great well prepared meal, but wouldn’t mind putting in the time to fix up something more than just a sandwich.
I’m looking for good, delicious tasting food and healthy food most importantly.
I should stop this fast food lifestyle.
Healthiness is a key factor, but most importantly, the taste which is what will sell me.

i’m a college student too!
grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce (just pop into the oven)
grilled chicken with any type of sauce (ditto)
garlic-baked chicken: use chicken breast meat for this, slice deeply into the meat but not all the way, and put loads of chopped garlic into the slit. season chicken with salt and pepper and bake.
pasta with instant sauce is always good and cheap. or you can make your own sauce with cream cheese and milk (heat over stove and stir til you get a good consistency)
fried chinese noodles: fry some garlic in a pan til brown, add in seasoned chicken meat and stir, add in veggies (cut and washed) then lastly add in the noodles (egg noodles etc. some noodles have to be boiled first). stir well, add in sauce (oyster sauce is good) and stir. done!
for fried rice, ditto. can add in an egg after the rice has been added if you want. cook the rice beforehand and make sure that it’s cold as hot rice doesn’t work well. can add mushrooms, etc.
filled omelettes!
baked butternut squash. just cut the squash into half and deseed, oil the surfaces a bit and pop into the oven (google to get the amount of time it needs to be baked…i forget)
jacket potatoes, pop them in the microwave. remember to poke holes into the skin first. just stuff with whatever you have, or you can use ready-made sandwich filler from the supermarket
mashed potatoes! just boil until soft, mash them (i just use a fork), add salt, pepper to taste and also some milk until you get the consistency you want. oh, and also butter.
Asda do frozen chicken breasts for 3 quid a kg. Thats half the price of fresh ones. Dice them and fry them with taco seasoning, and a few peppers or mushrooms (or whatever you fancy) Then stick a bit of grated cheese on top and wrap in one of those fahita wraps or a pitta bread.
stir fry? its quik, easy and not too expensive a bit of vegetables and meat will do.
also try pasta its also wuite quick you can buy the say and noodles in one pack
